5 rounds – 1 challenge!

The unique structure of the End of the Weak MC Challenge has united representatives of hip hop communities all over the world on the stage. But what makes them connect across cultures, when cultures so often divide people?

The End of the Weak MC challenge consists of rounds, from the recent regional finals held in Uganda in Mbale, Mbarara, Gulu and Kampala, to the world finals in Paris.

1st round: The Written Round. The MC gives a verse with his own track.

2nd round: A capela.  The MC raps without the backing of the beats.

3rd round: Freestyle-Grab-the-Bag. the MC grabs an item from the bag full of everyday items, and has to rap about that item on a beat provided by the DJ.

4th round: Beat Juggling. In this round it is the MC versus the DJ. The DJ plays different beats and the MC has to flow in them.

5th round: The Cypher . All the MCs line up on stage and each raps 4 bars, then pass it on.

Ugandan End of the Weak teamleader Bruney MC says: ‘The concepts of the end of the weak challenge could be understood by any MC in the world.’  Explaining the background, Burney continues: ‘The challenge started in New York, and was taken up in Germany, France, Brazil, Argentina , Canada, Czech Republic,  Spain, Sweden – so many other European countries. It has just stated in Senegal. Each country runs their own chapter, but at the end of the season we put up the world finals. The winner of each chapter travels to the world finals. This year the finals are in France.’
